A day at the Newseum
Had a fantastic day today at the Newseum. Many of the students hadn't been there, and afterwards we held an hour and a half discussion on the various exhibits, particularly the Pulitzer photos.
That morphed into a discussion of Katrina and its coverage, and I promised them I would post this link on the devastating effects of the tsunami.

Here we go!
Whew! The last two days of training have been a whirlwind! WJMC has a PACKED agenda for these students over the next week, with unbelievable resources at their disposal. I would HIGHLY recommend this program for any high school journalism student interested in journalism/media leadership, and that's just based on what I've seen so far.
The Dean of Admissions, Dr. Andrew Flagle, is one of the more highly-respected admissions deans in the country, and it's easy to see why. Affable, personable and humorous, his easy-going charm is infectious with staff and students, and he clearly loves his job.
Tonight, we kick it off with Washington Post reporter Chris Cilliza, columnist of "The Fix" on politics; tomorrow, off to the Newseum.
And so it goes ...

This should be fun!
I have been selected to attend this summer's George Mason University's Washington Journalism and Media Conference July 8-15!
This should be a pretty exciting opportunity to work with high school students form around the U.S. We'll get a chance to listen to speakers from different media, as well as the ability to explore some of Wahington, D.C.'s sites and sounds.
My role will be as a discussion facilitator, which will afford the occasion to work on some HOTS questioning which I can transfer back to my classroom this fall. It's a win-win!
